Item F2: 2 KNOBCONE PINE TREES
Out of stock
This package contains 2 knobcone pine (Pinus attenuata) trees. The buyer will receive trees that are similar to the ones that are pictured. These trees are 24 to 30 inches tall, the branching spread is 8 to 12 inches and the trunk diameter is 5/16 to 1/2 inch. The picture was taken on 10/17/12. The knobcone pine ranges from the mountains of southern Oregon to Baja California with the greatest concentration in northern California and the Oregon-California border. The knobcone pine is recommended for zones 2-10 and 14-21. It grows rapidly to 20 to 80 feet tall, and 20 to 25 feet wide. It can grow well in poor, coarse, rocky, mountain soils. The cones of knobcone pine are highly distinctive; oblique and bent at the apex, and occur in whorls on the branches. Since the cones may become imbedded within the wood of the expanding trunk, this species has been called "the tree that swallows its cones."
